March 29, 2014 – My favorite thing about the State Farm 10 mile is that it comes at a perfect time in the training for the Lincoln Marathon.  Just the right training distance at just the right time, all for just $25!  That is my kind of race.

statefarmThis year I ran it with one of my pastors from our church, Roger Graber.  Roger and I started together and ran the first 5 miles at a solid 8:45 pace.  In an attempt to set a PR at this distance, I left him and pushed the pace a bit to see what I could get done.  6 and 7 went well, but the tank was empty by 8 and 9.  Roger ended up catching me and finished just 5 seconds behind me.  It was a good run and I was grateful that Roger made the trip to Lincoln with me.  I really enjoyed the company and the run.

I skipped this race in 2013, but ran it as a part of a 20 mile day in both 2012 (with Dave Cihal) and 2011 (with Carrie Adams) and ran well above 1 hour 30 minutes for both.  Best year in 2010 was a current PR of 1:24.  With a 1:27 this year, I cannot complain.  In 2010 I weighted 10 pounds less and had just started running.  In a come back to running year, a 5 minute improvement is well worth the effort.  At $25 for the race, I will run this one every year!
